First of all - welcome to farmhouse fancy!! Second - I don't really live in a farmhouse, let alone a fancy farmhouse!
But, it is a dream of mine - a 2 story farmhouse - you would follow the long, winding, dirt road to get there and you would be met by mature trees, a big red barn (for fabulous parties, of course!), cows, chickens, maybe a horse or two, a perfect vegetable garden and an awesome flower garden. There would be a wrap-around porch with porch swings and rocking chairs, perfectly groomed flower pots, hanging ferns, and wisteria growing up the porch rails. Oh, and just wait until we get inside!!! Be still my heart! A slamming screen door, creaky wood floors, wavy glass windows, great little nooks and crannies, doors with personality, doorknobs to die for, and what farmhouse would be complete without a claw foot tub. Of course, I would have to add a little "fancy" to my farmhouse to make it my own!!! Chandeliers dripping with crystals and luxurious fabrics on the windows.
Oh, how all of this sounds so wonderful, but truth be told, I think my move to the big city 25 years ago has made me a sissy!! I think the slamming screen door would drive me nuts. The creaky wood floors probably are a little drafty (I do like my central heat and air), the wavy glass in the windows probably causes vertigo like the bi-focal glasses I'm supposed to wear, the little nooks and crannies probably would just collect junk or be a great gathering space for mice, the personality ridden doors probably don't open and close properly (but the doorknobs are pretty) and the claw foot tub has no jets!! And the great outdoors..........the long, winding, dirt road would just mean my car would always be dirty (and The Man hates that), birds (crazy birds) probably live in the mature trees just waiting to dive at my head and poke my eyes out, the big red barn is probably inhabited by varmints (rats, possums and skunks), the vegetable garden is overgrown with weeds and home to the snakes, the flower garden is swarming with bees, oh and the wisteria has completely taken over my porch rails and is now engulfing my sweet, little, 2 story farmhouse singing "feed me Seymour, feed me now".
So, for my own sanity, I think it's safe to say, that I should just continue to dream about my perfect little farmhouse fancy and remain in my current home - which I absolutely love and feel blessed to live in!!
Because of my love for houses - "farmhouse" and all things related to home decor - "fancy" - I decided to start this blog - {1510 farmhouse fancy} - to document and share my own little diy projects and home decor here at 1510 - farmhouse or not. Thanks for stopping by and hope you will continue to do so for a little creative inspiration!
