What I Wore Wednesday

Hello Friends!!!

It's that time again -  I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy

for some great fashion inspiration.  

 I'll show you what I wore (only 2 outfits)

and

 I'll also show you a few things I wish I was wearing!!

Monday - 1st day of Spring Break - so I thought I should dress "spring-like".

My 15 year old son wanted to know why

I was wearing a grandma sweater!! WHAT???

I thought it looked kinda Anthropologie-ish - but appartently, not so much!

Definitely more color and pattern than I normally wear,

but I like it!

Project Simplify: Master Closet

I found another great blog last night - "Simple Mom" and right now she is hosting 

Project Simplify

   A way to simplify, declutter, and organize your household - one room at a time. 

 This week's project just happens to be the master bedroom closet!!

 I've been working on my closet for a couple of weeks now,

 so I thought I would join in on this project and share a couple of before and after photos. 

I have not finished organizing the entire closet yet, but one area of frustration for me is

the top of my built in dresser, so I thought I would focus on that one area last night.

While this isn't my proudest moment - a "before" photo is required to be a participant in the party -

So here it is - the "before" photo of my dresser -

awwww - see my ipod pig - a gift from my son a few years ago.

It reminds me of a Power Puff girl!!!

Books, sweaters, bracelets.............and probably some trash.

How about some mail, receipts, glasses, and cards from The Man.

Oh, and some money!! That's always good to find!

SO MUCH BETTER!!!!

Not sure why I let it get so bad - but now it is neat and tidy.

I can actually see the top of my dresser and my jewelry!!

The milk glass dishes were found at a thrift store and holds my rings, earrings and small bracelets.

The rectangular plate is from Target and makes a great place to put my watches and large bracelets.

The tiny mannequin was in my daughter's room, but when she moved out she didn't take it with her, so I claimed it as my own!! It makes a great place for my "dainty" necklaces. 

The two heart shaped crystal containers and frame are gifts from The Man many, many years ago,

so they hold a special place in my heart!!!

On top of the mirrored jewelry box are some dried roses. One is a rose my grandpa bought for my grandma's funeral.  He wanted roses to place on her casket as one last gesture of love!!!

I was lucky enough to get to keep one.  He loved her so much!!

I purchased the small lamp years ago, but it never really had a good home - until now! 

To make the lamp a little taller, I set it on some vintage books.

I think I like having the extra light on my dresser.

For my necklaces, this small metal piece works great!! 

I have alot of necklaces,

so I think I need to get another one.

Well, there you have it - the dresser in my closet!! 

I'll post more photos of my closet as I get it more organized.

I must admit, I really do feel dorky taking pictures of myself and asking The Man and my son to take pictures of me all the time, but I love looking at all the other links to see what everyone else

wears on a daily basis. It makes me think outside of my own comfort box and try new things!!

Mom's Lamp

While I'm still searching for the perfect lampshades for my beautiful thrift store lamps -

I thought I would give my mom's thrift store lamp a quick make-over!!

Brass and hunter green - not exactly the look she was going for,

but the size and shape were great and it only cost $5.

First, I taped off the cord (I used a Wal-Mart sack to contain it all and taped it on the end).

I forgot to take a picture of the paint, but I used a rubbed oil bronze

spray paint, that I purchased at Lowes for about $5.

I then took it to the garage and sprayed three light coats, letting them dry in between.

Look at how great it looks - but I thought it needed a little

something to give it some depth, an added dimension.

Bring in the Rub'n'Buff in Antique Gold.

I just put a little on my finger, dabbed it on a paper towel (to remove some excess)

then lightly rubbed the edges on the lamp that I wanted to hilight.

Now you can see the details a little better.

The lampshade was on clearance at HL for $7 and coordinates perfectly with my mom's living room.

A great lamp for under $20!! Now that's a great deal!!!

I love it - and I think I just might be on the hunt for a lamp like this for myself!

I'll have to take some pictures at my mom's to show you her cute little

one bedroom - let's call it a cottage - yeah, a cute little one bedroom cottage!

It's the perfect size for her and has been fun to decorate and to add character and personality!!

Fabulous Outdoor Spaces

Hello friends!!! Sorry for the lack of posts - it's been crazy here at the farmhouse

this week, but I'm looking forward to a relaxing week-end with family!!



I am so ready for warm weather!!  While relaxing this week-end, I'll be dreaming

of these fabulous outdoor spaces and how I can re-create just a little bit

of this awesome-ness in my own backyard.

These items and spaces are all fabulous, but probably way more work and money than

we can do.  But with that being said, I'm going to decorate outside the same way I decorate inside.

I'll start by searching for items similar to the ones in the photos that I absolutely love

and incorporate them into my own design.  I don't want to "copy" the

above photos, just use them as inspiration and try to capture the feel of these

spaces in my own outdoor space!

I hope you found some inspiration as well for your outdoor areas!
